MALAY SUPREMACY IS NOT AN ISSUE!!!

Ketuanan Melayu or Malay supremacy has been blown out of proportion and is not an issue, said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. He said there was "no such thing" as Malay supremacy as the Malays were the underdogs in Malaysia."They (Malays) are the poor people. I keep telling them that if you work as a driver or shoe polisher, you cannot very well call yourself tuan (sir). The man who pays to have his shoe polished, he is your tuan," he said on the Riz Khan Show, aired on the Al Jazeera network last night.Dr Mahathir said the government's affirmative action policy to help the Malays was not aimed at reinforcing Malay supremacy."It is not a question of majority or minority. It's a question of disparity between the races," he said responding to a question comparing Malaysia's policy of helping the majority (Malays) and similar policies helping minorities in other countries. "Everyone admits that in this country, the Chinese dominate the economy. They are the richest people in this country. You can go around and see they live very well in this country. They are free, they are able to send their children to study elsewhere because they have the money."But the majority is the poor part of the population and we need to bring them up so that there is parity in terms of economic well-being."
